The Single Pitch Award (SPA) is a qualification intended for those who wish to supervise groups climbing and abseiling at single pitch crags or climbing walls in the UK.

The award consists of a training and assessment course run by Peak Mountain Training, and is approved by the National Governing Body: Mountain Leader Training UK and Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE).

In order to attend a Single Pitch Award Training course you must meet certain requirements, as stipulated by Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE) and register with them at http://www.mlte.org

Single Pitch Award Training:

The Single Pitch Award (SPA) training course is run over two days. It covers a variety of essential skills, including both personal climbing, ropework skills and the techniques required to manage group climbing sessions.

Duration: 2 days (inc 1 evening) Ratio: 1:4–1:6 (as per MLTUK guidelines) Location: Peak District Price: £150 per person

Climbing Wall Award Assessment:

The SPA assessment course runs for two days, and tests the candidate on a variety of syllabus related topics. These include personal lead climbing at 'Severe' standard, gear placement, ropework and group management.
