Britains geology makes a unique rock climbing paradise with varied experiences from the gritstone edges of the Peak District to the sea cliffs of the Outer Hebrides.

Regardless of whether you are making your first lead, or would like to visit some adventurous rock climbing venues as part of a guided trip, James Thacker Mountaineering's rock climbing trips and courses will hold something of interest.

James Thacker Mountaineering offers a full range of rock climbing courses from introductory sessions through to mountain crag and sea cliff climbing. Use the menu on the left to browse your area(s) of interest.

Most rock climbing courses are based in the Derbyshire Peak District on the popular 'Eastern Edges' near the village of Hathersage. Here you will be climbing in the footsteps of many of the early pioneers and experiencing some classic routes. Our ethos, as always, is to make you as self reliant as possible, allowing you to enjoy the activity at your own pace.

Mountain multi-pitch and sea cliff courses take place slightly further a field in Snowdonia, North Wales and the English Lake District.

Beginner or novice rock climber? Visit the Intro Rock Climbing section for details about two and five day courses on the gritstone edges of the Derbyshire Peak District. These courses are ideal for your first rock climbing experience or for those making the transition from an indoor to the 'real' rock.

Intermediate or experienced rock climber? Visit the Lead Climbing section for details about various courses for independant climbers wishing to extend their ropework and climbing skills as well as experiencing life on the "sharp end" by leading routes.

Advanced or experienced rock climber? Visit Multi-pitch Rock Climbing for details about learning to lead on multi-pitch mountain routes, or on Britain's major sea cliffs. For experienced climbers we also cover problem solving and self rescue skills. Like most first aid courses: you hope you never have to use the skills but they might come in handy.

Adventure Rock Trips? On these trips the main aim will be for us to take the strain and guide you up some classic routes, allowing you to enjoy the experience of being in the mountains or on the crag. Visit Adventure Rock Trips.
