The Snowdonia area of North Wales is perhaps the home of mountain rock climbing, with varied mountain crags and the sea cliffs of Anglesea a stones throw away. Multi Pitch climbing is, for many climbers, the true path: multiple pitches, bigger crags, longer days..

James Thacker Mountaineering's multi-pitch rock climbing courses are all held in the Snowdonia area of North Wales (or the Lake District). Both areas have a variety of different rock types with a good distribution of both 'roadside' and high level mountain crags to make the most of aspirations and the prevailing weather conditions. Again the varied geology of Britain's mountains could see you groveling up a big Ogwen crack, climbing bolted slate routes, or hanging onto a Quartzite sea cliff.

Multi Pitch Rock:

This Multi Pitch Rock course is aimed at those wanting to take the next step; multi pitch climbing on the UK's larger mountain crags. You may already be familiar with single pitch climbing and be prepared for this highly flexible course. North Wales is an excellent location with many rhyolite crags, well know for their excellent holds.

Learning Objectives: route choice, guidebook interpretation, runner placement, multi pitch belays, stance management, descent, retreat/abseil and basic problem solving.

Advanced Rock - Sea Cliff:

Rock climbing on the UK's sea cliffs can be a daunting but very exciting and rewarding experience. For this course you should have experience of climbing up to Severe standard. This course is based on a three day programme, allowing us to revise essential skills at a single pitch venue, before making the most of two further days sea cliff climbing.

Learning Objectives: approaching routes, route choice, guidebook interpretation, runner placement, multi pitch belays, stance management, descent, retreat/abseil, problem solving, prussiking, and understanding tide times.

Duration: 3 days Ratio: 1:2 Location: North Wales Price: £250 per person

Self Rescue and Problem solving :

Sadly, sometimes things don't go quite right! Allow us to equip you with the skills and confidence to deal with an emergency or unexpected problem on the crag. This two day course is aimed at giving you the skills and confidence to deal with common problems and emergency situations on a multi pitch crag. This is an intensive and technical course; to achieve the most you should be happy leading and seconding independently at Severe standard.

Likely skills taught include: route choice, protection, multi pitch belays, escaping the system, retreat, lowering, hoisting, assisted evacuation, seeking help etc.
