James Thacker Mountaineering specialises in tailored courses, which are matched to your individual requirements. As such we generally try an put on courses to match your availability, and we aim to operate small ratios so that you can learn or experience the activity at your own pace. Many courses continue to be booked on a private basis rather than operating 'open courses' where you could be matched with people of very different abilities.

Some 'open' courses that require minimum ratios are run on set dates, these being available to view in the Calendar section of the website.

Pricing Policy:

James Thacker Mountaineering strives to keep prices competative and accessible for you, the client. All technical equipment is included in the course cost. For a quick run down on course prices visit the Prices at a glance page.

Associates:

From time to time James Thacker Mountaineering uses a number of carefully selected Associate Mountain Instructors to deliver our course programmes. All are Mountain Instructors or exceptionally experienced mountaineers, who are chosen due to a mix of their technical skills, qualifications and sound interpersonal skills. Whats Included?

On this site you will find prices and information regarding summer single and multi-pitch rock climbing, scrambling, navigation, winter mountaineering and associated activities. If you can't see what you are after please contact us, if we can't do it we probably know somebody who can! Hopefully we can make you trip or holiday a reality. These prices include all technical instruction and coaching, technical equipment and ropes.

In addition, for the majority of course programmes you will have to provide your accommodation , lunch and personal equipment Download Kit List (opens in new window) . Please feel free to contact us if you require assistance finding somewhere to stay. In the vast majority of cases we are more than happy to provide transport from your accomodation to course venues. Weather:

Sadly mountaineering and its associated activities are always dictated, to an extent, by the weather and the prevailing conditions. As such this may dictate the venues used during a particular course. However, we will always strive to provide a varied and relevant course regardless of the weather.
