James Thacker Mountaineering was born out of our vast enthusiasm for climbing across the UK; and a need for competitively priced skills training.

The vast majority of courses are delivered by James Thacker, however from time to time you may work with the following Associates. We have taken the unusual step of forging a strong alliance between top professional instructors in two quite seperate geographical areas.

All are Mountain Instructors and exceptionally experienced mountaineers, who are chosen due to a mix of their technical skills, qualifications, teaching and sound interpersonal skills. Invariably all of these people are friends as well as colleagues, most importantly being 'activists' in the fields of climbing and mountaineering. This depth of experience ensures that you won't just receive a "text book" answer to any question but one that is based on real experience.

Andy Turner

Andy Turner has been a commited climber for over 15 years. Based in the Lake District Andy is a highly experienced instructor who also holds the Mountain Instructors Certificate (MIC). As a regular Scottish winter activist he is often to be found working, or just out climbing on Ben Nevis. Andy also has ascents to his credit of major mountains in the greater ranges such as Cerro Torre, Patagonia, combined with a recent attempt on the north face of Machermo, Nepal.
